Perineal raphe

Contents of the male pelvis, including the viscera and perineum.

The perineal raphe comprises a ridge of tissue on the human body that extends from the anus to the perineum. Embryologically, it arises from the fusion of the urogenital folds.

In males, this visible line continues through the posterior midline of the scrotum as the scrotal raphe and then upwards through the penile frenulum as the penile raphe, respectively.

In females, the perineal raphe extends from the anus to the vulva, specifically the labia minora.

Perineal pyramidal protrusion is a rare condition can occuring in younger children, particularly females, where a small lump of perineal tissue protrudes somewhere along the perineal raphe.
